Doug Henderson Bass/Vocals

Doug’s interest in music began with his Mother playing piano at their home and church, as well as his Dad’s huge collection of country: Johnny Cash, Buck Owens, Merl Haggard. His guitar playing started with the Beatles era, resulting in formation of a rock band in the mid-60′s. Watching the Flatt & Scruggs tv show every Saturday led to a love of bluegrass music. Doug’s first bluegrass band,The Henderson Bluegrass Band, with his brother David playing bass, was formed in the mid-70′s, when he was introduced to Leon Poindexter, uncle to the great Rice Brothers: Tony, Larry, Ronnie, and Wyatt. Doug became good friends with them, and eventually the Southern Comfort Band was formed, which included Doug on guitar, Larry on mandolin, Ronnie on bass, Wayne Lewis on fiddle, and Jim Thornton on banjo. Progressive as well as traditional tunes were performed, even to the point of occasional use of drums. While attending law school in Houston, Tx, a 3 piece band was formed, with Doug now learning the ropes on bass, which he plays to this day. Singing lead & harmony vocals is one of his strong points, having been influenced by the styles of Tony & Larry Rice, as well as the classic country & bluegrass legends. Doug also plays bass guitar in a Scottish Piper Band & a local oldies rock band.
